What is a domain?
A domain is the address of a website on the Internet. It makes it possible to access a website using a memorable name instead of having to enter the associated IP address.
A domain is usually composed of three parts:
- Subdomain (optional): A preceding element, such as “www” or a topic-specific designation such as “shop.example.de”.
- Main domain: The actual name of the website, such as “example” in “example.de”.
- Top Level Domain (TLD): The domain extension, such as “.com”, “.de” or “.org”, which often provides information about the country or category.
